What is an ashing furnace?

Time:2024-09-05 Click:0

Ashing furnace is a high-temperature resistance furnace designed specifically for rapid ashing of coal, coke, petroleum and other substances. It is widely used in laboratories of power, coal, chemical, metallurgical, research institutes, and colleges and universities for ashing and ash determination, and is one of the commonly used coal analysis equipment.
The ashing furnace, sometimes also known as a muffle furnace, typically consists of a rectangular integral lining made of silicon carbide refractory material and spiral heating elements made of iron chromium aluminum alloy wire wound through the upper, lower, left, and right grooves of the lining. The furnace is a sealed structure made of lightweight refractory materials, including furnace mouth bricks and furnace door bricks, as well as insulation layers made of refractory fibers and expanded perlite products, to ensure the effective maintenance of high temperature environment and heat inside the furnace.
The working principle of the ashing furnace is to completely burn the combustible substances in the sample through high-temperature heating, thereby obtaining a residue containing only inorganic substances, namely ash. This process is of great significance for analyzing the composition of the sample and understanding its combustion characteristics.
In addition, with the development of technology, new types of ashing furnaces such as microwave ashing furnaces have emerged. Microwave ashing oven uses microwave energy to heat samples, which has the advantages of fast heating speed, high efficiency, and low energy consumption. It is particularly suitable for treating oxides, impurities, oil stains, and other substances on metal surfaces, making their surfaces bright as new. However, microwave ashing ovens also have certain limitations, such as the sample cannot contain substances that contain moisture or are highly sensitive to moisture, and it is necessary to avoid placing flammable and explosive substances in the device for processing.
In summary, the ashing furnace is an important laboratory equipment that is of great significance for research and production in fields such as coal, chemical engineering, and metallurgy. With the continuous advancement of technology, the types and performance of ashing furnaces are also constantly improving and enhancing.
